MGO (methylglyoxal) is the main natural compound that gives Manuka honey its unique strength. The higher the MGO number, the stronger the honey.

MGO measures strength only. UMF™ is a full independent certification that, in addition to MGO, also verifies authenticity (Leptosperin), maturity (DHA) and freshness (HMF). That is why UMF is more reliable than MGO alone.
